The PSR has appointed Claire Simpson as its interim Head of Policy, following a competitive process. Claire was previously senior manager in the PSR’s Policy Department and a member of its leadership team, leading the PSR’s work on authorised push payment scams.
Claire's appointment is effective immediately and she replaces Kate Fitzgerald who leaves the PSR on 30 April.
Now a member of the PSR’s Executive Team, Claire will be responsible for leading the delivery of the PSR’s portfolio of policy projects, making decisions that influence and impact the organisation and the UK’s payments systems.
Commenting on the appointment, PSR Deputy Managing Director Deb Jones, said:
“I’m delighted to appoint Claire as interim Head of Policy. Claire has a track record of delivering projects that bring tangible positive change to people and businesses that use and rely on payment systems.
“This is an important time for the PSR and payments regulation. Claire will lead our policy work on card fees, payment scams, payment infrastructure, and helping deliver the National Payments Vision including our role in Variable Recurring Payments and open banking. Claire will also bring our policy team and work closer to the FCA as we head towards consolidation."
Speaking about her appointment, new interim Head of Policy Claire Simpson, said:
“I’m delighted to take on this role at such an important time for the PSR. The PSR has had such a positive impact on the people and businesses that use payment systems, and there is still an important job for us to do in payment systems regulation. I can’t wait to get started and lead the policy department through this period while working closely with our stakeholders.”
